A man is in hospital after police responded to reports of "hazardous material" in Bonnyrigg.

Officers attended a property in the area in response to the emergency after the man "took unwell" and was taken to hospital on Saturday evening.

Police say they carried out enquiries and confirmed that the material was not hazardous, and that there was no risk to the wider public.

The man's condition has not been confirmed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.15pm on Saturday, 4 July, 2026, we were made aware of a man having taken unwell and later taken to hospital.

“Officers attended a property in Bonnyrigg in relation following a report of a possible hazardous material. Enquiries were carried out and it was confirmed not to be hazardous.

"There was no risk to the wider public.”
