Police probe after man killed in Grangemouth Newlands Road crash

A man has died after being struck by a car in Grangemouth.

Police said the man was walking on the town's Newlands Road when he was hit by a Ford Fiesta just after 11pm on Monday.

Emergency services attended; however, the male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to identify him.

The 35-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution and arrested in connection with the incident.

The road was closed to allow police enquiries to be carried out and reopened at around 6am on Tuesday.

Sergeant Michael Shillington said: "Our enquiries are ongoing to identify the man who died and to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed it to contact us.

"We are looking to trace the driver of a vehicle that initially stopped at the scene but left before police arrived.

"I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us."
