EXTRA funding has been handed over to groups supporting women and children at risk of experiencing violence during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rape Crisis Scotland and Scottish Women’s Aid have received grants from the Scottish Government’s communities fund.
The additional money will go towards helping ensure that access to key support services continues and that victims can still have access to ways of reporting crimes during the coronavirus outbreak - including using online video platforms, phone lines and text messaging services.

Concerns have previously been raised that victims of domestic or sexual abuse could be put in danger due to social isolation and pleas to stay at home to stop the spread of Covid-19.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “There is, as I think everybody understands, a real risk that women and children who are already subject to domestic abuse will feel even more isolated and vulnerable during this crisis, so this funding will help ensure that they have access to support services.”
Scottish Women’s Aid will receive £1.35 million over six months and Rape Crisis Scotland will receive £226,309 over six months from the £350 million fund.

Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said: “We want women and children experiencing domestic abuse in the home to know that although they may feel isolated and vulnerable during these unprecedented times, they are not alone.
“Anyone experiencing violence, including coercive and controlling behaviours, should not feel in any way inhibited by the current coronavirus outbreak to report a crime against them.
“These are enormously difficult times, but the safety of women and child victims who experience abuse in the home is paramount – the message to stay at home does not mean that they should not seek urgent help, advice or support.”
He added: “It is a priority now as ever that victims of domestic abuse and gender based violence have access to support services, and that support organisations and frontline staff, who work tirelessly to provide these vital services, are supported to deliver new ways of working in these unprecedented times.
