THE Rev Dr James K Torrens designates those who find romantic love among those of their same gender as sinners rather than people created by God with such an inherent attraction (Letters, July2).

My understanding of the realm of biblical sin is that it concerns those areas of life over which we have some control and I agree with the Society of Friends' position that same-sex attraction is a natural – morally neutral – condition on a par with left-handedness.

I really deplore the spiritual arrogance of fellow Christians who repeat Gandhi's mantra "love the sinner, but hate the sin" as if it were part of scripture or a dominical command.

Driven to distraction

However its spokesman seeks to dress it up, it is an outrage that NHS Procurement allows its employees access to vehicles such as Mercedes, BMWs, and Audis ("Quango rents sports cars", The Herald, July 2). The hard-pressed taxpayer is aghast that such schemes are permitted within the NHS. The Scottish Government, with ultimate responsibility for such matters, should be stepping into this affair and insisting that more appropriate and more abstemious arrangements are put in place.
