I WRITE in regard to your mention of the Cutty Sark ("Shining a spotlight on scientific achievements", The Herald, August 31).

When recently on holiday in London I visited the Cutty Sark at Greenwich. She is indeed an impressive vessel, and the information displayed aboard her together with the brochures about her voyages and crew to the Far East and Australia is most informative. However, nowhere could I see anything about where the ship was built (Dumbarton), and the casual visitor might get the impression that she was built in deepest Surrey. That should be rectified, and perhaps the Scottish Maritime Museum and/or others could prepare some suitable material and present it to enlighten the operators in Greenwich and the visiting public.
