IT seems there is a mini scandal is in Scotland in regard to the flu vaccination programme. There are two vaccines on offer, the quadrivalent (QIV) and the trivalent (TIV). The TIV is most effective and the QIV has fewer effects in the under-65 group. The QIV offers minimal benefits to the over 65 age group. In Scotland the TIV is only offered to the over-75 group due to “limited vaccine supply”. The group between 65 and 75 is being offered the QIV despite it having “relatively small additional health benefits”.

In England all over 65s are offered the TIV. A Scot can pay £15 to have the TIV in an English pharmacy. I have been offered this although I did not take up the offer. How does this fit in with “limited supply”?
