I ENJOY Thelma Edwards’s contributions to the Letters Pages but I am aghast at her suggestion to put the TV in the bin (Letters, January 11).
With nightly offerings of irrelevant culinary exploits, quizzes, rehashed news and their weather reports, puerile sitcoms, canned laughter, and repeats, repeats, repeats, what’s not to like about switching off with a wee splattering of violence, sex, nudity and bad language after a dreich winter’s day?

I AM shocked by the suggestion of Thelma Edwards that your columnist Rosemary Goring should put her TV in the bin. Surely any unwanted electrical equipment should be disposed of responsibly in accordance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive?

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
