I ALWAYS enjoy reading your "Those Were the Days" features, especially the one about Pastor Billy Graham visiting the UK and in particular Glasgow and the Kelvin Hall ("1955: Kelvin Hall awaits the crusading evangelist, Billy Graham", The Herald, July 4).

It immediately reminded me of my Mum and Dad, who were both churchgoers, visiting this particular rally – my sister and myself being left at home. The gathering finished, as it seemingly always finished, with a direct appeal by Billy Graham to the audience/worshippers to put their faith in Jesus and the Church, and inviting them to come towards the platform to commit themselves to Christ. My Dad suddenly got up, to be shouted at by my Mum, and held back as she said: "Jimmy, sit down!". My Dad turned and said to Mum: "I'm only going to the toilet!"

The appeal obviously didn't work for everyone, but it gave our family a great story to tell over the years.
