The Herald:

No cries of freedom, no declarations of victory, and certainly no Dubya-style “mission accomplished” banners. To describe the First Minister’s statement today as lacking in drama would be the understatement of the year. 

In part the absence of atmosphere was due to the virtual nature of the session. There was more to it, however. 

First, Boris Johnson had got there before Scotland’s FM with his own so-called “freedom day” on July 19. That now seems a long time ago. Even that turned out to be a subdued event given the rising number of cases at the time.
