NICOLA Sturgeon has revealed she is considering becoming a foster parent after she leaves politics

The First Minister said it was something she and her husband Peter Murrell, the chief executive of the SNP, had "only scratched the surface of talking about".

She made the comments in an interview with Vogue magazine ahead of the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.

Ms Sturgeon said she had "become really involved in and passionate about improving the opportunities for young people who grew up in care" and in the future, post-politics, “fostering children may be something we would think about".

She added: "It’s something my husband and I have only scratched the surface of talking about.”

Ms Sturgeon, who married Mr Murrell in 2010, previously revealed that in 2011 she had a miscarriage.

Asked about what she wants to do after Holyrood, the First Minister took a swipe at her predecessors.

Former Labour leader Jack McConnell now sits in the House of Lords and Alex Salmond leads the pro-independence Alba Party.

Ms Sturgeon told the magazine: “I can categorically say that I am never going to sit in the House of Lords and that I am not going to set up another party.

“I don’t think it’s particularly helpful for any new leader or new First Minister to have that immediate predecessor breathing down their neck… some may say I’m speaking from experience.”
