Multiple Glasgow streets were cordoned off this afternoon as Extinction Rebellion activists made good on their promise of disruption.

This afternoon thousands of activists gathered on Buchanan street to take part in the Greenwash March which was organised by Extinction Rebellion.

Singers and drummers created quite the atmosphere as people from all over the world had travelled to attend the march.

However, it soon turned into chaos as the march got underway. As protesters made their way down Sauchiehall street , they were instantly cut off by British Transport Police from England.

Police and protesters stood at a standstill for half an hour, until Extinction Rebellion started attempting to go in different directions.

Disruption across multiple streets was then seen as activists attempted to make their way down any route possible. Police seemed confused and some were seen sprinting to block off further routes.

The thousands of protesters which began the peaceful display on Buchanan Street ended up in a game of cat and mouse with police as confusion erupted around the city and multiple vehicles were left at stand still on busy Glasgow roads.

Now police and protesters appear to be in yet another stand still as the march  headed towards JP Morgan bank, which was the location of Tuesdays march.

One activist, Todd Smith, is a former Thomas Cook airline pilot. He travelled over to Scotland from the Netherlands on board the climate train.

He said: "It's nice to see people out here, speaking truth to power. It is so difficult to get the reality of the situation this world is in across.

"I used to be an airline pilot, and about three years ago I basically had an awakening, saw the rise of Extinction Rebellion and felt compelled to understand climate science and now I am an activist with in XR and i'm happy to be here."
