Scotland officials are considering putting their new recruit Ruaidhri Smith, the Glasgow-born Glamorgan all-rounder, on a fast track into the senior set-up.

The 17-year-old was drafted into the national Under-19 side last month after his Scottish roots were revealed and he responded by hitting a match-winning debut century during a tour match in South Africa.

National selectors may include him in next week's Scotland Lions game against Warwickshire. Smith's potential as a pace bowler could swing selection in his favour because of the absence through injury of the regular new-ball pair Safy Sharif and Gordon Goudie.

Stretched bowling resources mean that Aberdeenshire's Tyler Buchan is likely to earn another chance to impress in the three-day game against the Bears.
