Chris Fusaro won the battle of the youngsters to land the Glasgow Warriors Player of the Season award, yesterday.

The flanker edged out Stuart Hogg for the prize, with Ryan Grant and Tom Ryder not far behind. Hogg had the consolation of earning the Young Player of the Season prize.

Sean Lineen, the outgoing coach, chaired the judging panel, which also featured his assistant Shade Munro and defence coach Gary Mercer, who is also leaving the club next month.

Lineen said: "Chris and Stuart thoroughly deserve this recognition for their fantastic efforts over the past few months. Both have taken the opportunity to step up and show they have what it takes to be leading players for Glasgow, [with] the potential to develop even further. It's also fantastic that they've both signed long-term contracts. I have no doubt they'll contribute even more strongly in the years ahead."

Lineen won the inaugural Famous Grouse Spirit of Rugby Award, while fringe player Peter Horne was voted scorer of the best try for his score in the 23-19 Pro12 win against Leinster, the European champions, in Dublin in September.
