THE first competitive Dundee derby in seven years is heading for a Tannadice sell-out – 11 days before the head-to-head, writes Euan McArthur.
United fans snapped up the few remaining briefs of their allocation for the clash yesterday morning, while the Dens Park support have purchased around half of their 5500 share with the rest going on general sale today.
The remaining tickets are expected to sell quickly, which will ensure there is a capacity 14,200 crowd inside Tannadice for the lunchtime showdown. The fans showed last month the pulling power within the City of Discovery when more than 10,000 poured into Dens Park for a pre-season friendly.
Dundee, meanwhile, are hoping their fans will mark their side's return to the Scottish Premier League with a full house for Saturday's home clash with St Mirren.
Veteran defender Matt Lockwood said: "They can be our twelfth man. The lads will get a huge lift from running out in front of a big crowd and that's when it will really hit home that we're back in the SPL."
