Michael Higdon has signed a two-year deal with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.

The 29-year-old English striker's contract with Motherwell ended this summer.

Higdon, formerly of St Mirren, Falkirk and Crewe, was top scorer in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League last season with 26 goals which helped earn him his PFA Scotland player of the year award.

Technical director Carlos Aalbers told NEC's official website: "For the striker position we wanted to have a type of 'target man', and with capturing Michael we have done just that.

"In Scotland he has already demonstrated his ability to score goals at the highest level."
