DORIN GOIAN will tomorrow sign a two-year contract worth £3000 a week with Greek Super League team Asteras Tripolis.

The Romanian defender, who also had offers from clubs in his homeland, was released in the summer by Rangers after he was paid more than £420,000 in a wage settlement for the remainder of his year's contract.

Goian said: "All being well, I will fly to Athens and sign a contract with them this weekend.

"Asteras are a big club and are ambitious. I look forward to playing for them."

Iannis Kaimenakis, president of Asteras, said: "When I found out he was a free agent he was the prime target for Asteras."

Goian spent last season on loan at Serie B side Spezia after starting the term with Rangers in the Irn-Bru Third Division.

But he reached an agreement to end his contract, along with fellow veteran defender Carlos Bocanegra, who has since signed for Chivas USA.
