JIMMY Nicholl was appointed manager of Cowdenbeath for a second time yesterday following Colin Cameron's midweek departure.

The 56-year-old, most recently Pat Fenlon's assistant at Hibernian, has agreed to take on the job for the rest of the season.

Former Manchester United and Rangers defender Nicholl was previously in charge at Central Park during the 2010-11 season, leaving after they were relegated from the First Division. He was appointed Kenny Shiels' No 2 at Kilmarnock soon afterwards.

Cameron, who had been the Canadian-born Northern Irishman's assistant, took charge in June 2011. He departed on Tuesday, with the Fife club once again struggling to hold on to a place in Scotland's second tier.

The vastly experienced Nicholl has also been in charge at Raith Rovers - leading the Stark's Park outfit to their 1994 League Cup success against Celtic - and Millwall as well as assistant manager at Dunfermline and Aberdeen and with Northern Ireland.

Lee Makel, who was No 2 at Cowdenbeath under Cameron, will continue in that role.

Announcing the appointment, Cowdenbeath chief executive Alex Anderson said: "We are delighted we have managed to secure Jimmy Nicholl.

"His wealth of experience will be vital in our current league situation as we endeavour to get away from the relegation zone."
