Iain Butcher, the European flyweight champion, is on the verge of signing with promoter Frank Warren as he prepares for his ring return tomorrow.
After leaving local manager Paul Graham the Motherwell boxer had been in talks with both Eddie Hearn and Warren but appears to have opted for the more experienced promoter.
Although Hearn has been putting on more Scottish shows over the past few years, Butcher believes that may not last long and if he makes a name for himself Warren could be willing to travel north of the border.
World No.9-ranked Butcher, who is managed by MGM Marbella, said yesterday: "We're in the process of sorting out a deal with Frank.
"I should be speaking to him tomorrow to try and sort it out, then he will hopefully be my promoter from next week. I spoke to Eddie as well but things aren't matching up with what's happening with Ricky Burns. I don't think they'll be putting as many shows on in Scotland and Frank is willing to give me the exposure whether it's in Scotland or England. Frank has a good track record of delivering world title fights for his boxers on home soil so I think he could deliver.
"Tommy Gilmour works well with Frank so if we did have shows up in Scotland you could have guys like Gary Cornish [heavyweight] and Kris Carslaw [light-middleweight] who are around British title level as well.
"Kris has just won his eliminator and I'm mandatory challenger for the belt so you could maybe have both of us fighting for the British title up in Glasgow later this year.
"Also Frank already has Kevin Satchell [British flyweight champion] and Paul Butler [super-flyweight, former world champion] in his stable so we could all box each other at some point.
"The rematch between me and Kevin will sell either side of the border so the plan is for us to fight maybe next year when a world title could be on the line.
"After that I'd love to fight Paul Butler and I think the way Frank is looking at it is whatever happens the titles are staying in his stable."
The 22-year-old returns to action tomorrow night in a six-round warm-up fight against Brett Fidoe in Wales, after which he will box for the British title.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
