Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend last night paid tribute to the players who racked up the side's highest score in European competition since they put 50 past Bourgoin eight seasons ago.

The bonus-point win sets up the Warriors for their trip to Montpellier on Saturday. Montpellier will play their fellow French side Toulouse today, so Glasgow will also have the benefit of an extra rest day for their next game. Townsend said: "We're delighted with the intensity they played with and the defence. I don't think we conceded a point after the 11th minute.

"It was our most complete performance this season. We played really good rugby for 60 minutes against Leinster [in their opening Guinness PRO12 match] and then lost it a bit in the last 20.

"There was a period in the second half when we kicked away possession trying to defend the lead, but after that we attacked really well again. It was a really good 80-minute performance."

It was Glasgow's sixth home win against English opponents in European competition in as many seasons. Bath had come to Glasgow with a growing reputation, based largely on their recent 45-0 hammering of Leicester in the Aviva Premiership, but Glasgow taught them a rugby lesson at Scotstoun.

Townsend singled out scrum-half and captain Henry Pyrgos for praise, but also had warm words for Niko Matawalu, who took over from Pyrgos after 60 minutes and collected the bonus-point try.

"Henry was superb and it's great to have someone like Niko to bring energy when the game breaks up," said the coach. "Niko was unlucky last week when he had to play on the wing. We know how good our scrum-halfs are and it was great to see both play well."

However, Townsend also admitted that his side had made errors and that they still had work to do ahead of their next European game. He said: "We were disappointed not to get a try just after half time. There were opportunities and we will need to look at those."

Tommy Seymour, who left at half time with a knee problem, will be examined by medical staff over the next two days. Josh Strauss, Sean Lamont and Alex Dunbar, who all missed the game due to injuries, could come back in for the Montpellier match.
