QUEEN'S Park sit top of League Two after a scarcely deserved 2-1 victory over Scottish Cup quarter-finalists Berwick Rangers at Hampden.

Berwick dominated for long periods but fell behind in the 75th minute to Ross McPherson's composed opener.

Andy Russell equalised three minutes later only for Queen's Park's Paul Woods to notch a close-range winner with four minutes remaining.

Arbroath slipped to second as their horrid run of form was prolonged by a 2-0 defeat at fourth-placed Annan Athletic.

Steve Swinglehurst opened the scoring for Annan from close range in the 60th minute and Peter Weatherson added a second at the death.

East Fife lost ground in their play-off chase despite coming from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw against Clyde at New Bayview.

After an insipid opening period, Clyde broke the deadlock when Brian McQueen headed home.

However, the hosts salvaged a point in the final minute when player/manager Gary Naysmith set up Fraser Mullen for a sensational equaliser.

It was a forgettable debut for Montrose's new manager Paul Hegarty as his side fell to the bottom of the table after suffering a 4-0 rout at Elgin City.

Ally Gilchrist headed Elgin into a 23rd minute lead and any hopes of a Montrose comeback faded when Ewan Moyes was sent off.

Shane Sutherland and Mark Nicolson both netted for Elgin before half-time after which Jamie Duff added a fourth for the merciless Morayshire side.

That humbling defeat allowed East Stirling to move away from bottom spot with a 1-0 at Albion Rovers who continue to stumble in their promotion bid.

The hosts' Mark McGuigan's header was well saved by Shire goalkeeper Richard Barnard shortly before half-time.

After the interval, the visitors prospered from sloppy Rovers defending as Connor Greene's header gave Shire an unlikely 78th minute winner.
