NEIL LENNON has suspended Scotland star Barry Bannan 'indefinitely' from Bolton Wanderers after a hotel fracas.
The on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder was carpeted by the former Celtic boss, along with team mate Neil Danns, following an incident at the team's hotel when other guests made complaints about their behaviour.
Bannan, 25, wasn't in Bolton's squad for the 2-2 draw at Brentford and Lennon has confirmed the 20-times capped Scotland star is in big trouble. Lennon said: "I have to put a marker down and I won't tolerate it, they have got a bit of making up to do.
"They are suspended indefinitely, until further notice, and they'll both be fined the maximum wage we can do. We will welcome them back when and if we decide it's the right time to do it.
"We're all big boys and I don't mind them going out and socialising but they've crossed the line with me. I have to set standards at the club and expect them to be followed. I don't know what it will mean for Barry. I like him as a player.
"He was very apologetic, as was Neil. We won't make a big song and dance about it. We've tried to keep it internal but we'll see what happens next week."
Ironically, the incident occurred just a few days after Bannan had hinted he wanted to make his loan move to Bolton permanent. He said: "I have really enjoyed my time here. The end of the season is coming at a bad time. I'm really enjoying my football and I'd like to play another 20 or 30 games if I could do.
"I'll make the best of the games we've got left and hopefully the gaffer will come calling but you never know. I'm looking at the games first before my own future.
"First and foremost I'm still a Palace player at this minute in time. It's hard for me to say what's going to happen. When the manager came in I played two out of the first four games but I decided I needed to play week-in, week-out. I didn't think I was going to get it there, so I came here.
"But football is strange, it can change at any time so there's no use making predictions."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
