TOP Scottish referee John Beaton was headbutted while officiating a fiery title decider in Saudi Arabia.

In Sunday's tie between Al Hilal and Al Nasr, footage of the game shows the whistler send off Al Hilal midfielder Salem Al Dawsari for motioning his head towards the official in the wake of a decision deep into injury time which was given against the midfielder's side.

It has also been reported that the referee, along with assistants Stuart Stevenson and Douglas Ross, was given an armed guard off the pitch at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.

Tempers boiled over as the fierce match came to its conclusion as Al Hilal finished the match with eight men.

Al Nassr won the game 1-0 to clinch the title.
