Gary Wild was a defensive rock as Pollok edged Blantyre Vics 3-1 to claim the Evening Times Champions' Cup.

But as Wild was keeping out the eager Vics attack at one end, brothers Robbie and David Winters were doing the damage at the other.

Former Aberdeen and Dundee United star Robbie scored the only goal of the first-half, while young brother David scored a second-half brace to clinch the trophy.

Wild said: "We knew it would be a tough match, as Vics are a good side, and that's exactly the way it turned out.

"They have a great record over Super League teams this season, so we were always on our guard.

"But we also have some big players and I felt we deserved to win, despite not being at our best after the break.

"Mind you, even when the Vics were enjoying their best spell in the game, our keeper Jordan Longmuir came up with an incredible penalty save. He has been outstanding all season."

Wild added: ""Pollok are a massive club so we should be challenging for honours every season.

"There is a lot of expectation at a club this size but I'd like to think we all thrive under the pressure.

"This term we've won the league and now the 'Evening Times' so it is the perfect end to the season."

Pollok were on the front foot from the first whistle and both Mark MacLennan and Kieran McAleenan tested Vics keeper Kevin Macklin in the opening minutes.

Lok skipper John Sweeney then had a shot cleared off the line before the hosts took the lead.

There looked to be more than a suspicion of offside when Robbie Winters ran on to a through ball and lobbed it over Macklin's head.

Both sides had chances before half-time but it was Lok who went in one up at the break.

However, Vics were back on level terms four minutes into the second-half.

Craig Smith chased down and won a 'lost cause' before playing in Fraser Malcolm, who fired home from 16 yards.

On 69, David Galt was tripped in the box by Jamie Darroch, but Longmuir dived full length to push it to safety.

But when David Winters was hauled down in the Vics' box moments later, he despatched the kick ruthlessly.

The same player then clipped a Kieran McAleenan cross past Macklin to make it 3-1 Pollok and the Evening Times Champions Cup was staying at Newlandsfield.
