SERENA Williams got the better of her sister act with her older sibling Venus to keep her hopes alive of holding all four Grand Slam titles concurrently for the second time in her career.

On their first meeting at SW19 since 2009, the 33-year-old World No 1 took just one hour and seven minutes to dispose of her older sister by a 6-4, 6-3 scoreline.

Middle Monday is the busiest day at Wimbledon, with all quarter finalists, male and female, taking part. Maria Sharapova, a winner here back in 2004, remains one obstacle in the American's path, and her potential semi-final opponent came through 6-4, 6-4 against Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas. Agnieszka Radwanska and Viktoria Azarenka made it beyond Jelena Jankovic and Belinda Bencic respectively, while last year's semi-finalist Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic lost two tie-breaks as she fell to Coco Vandeweghe of the USA.

In the men's competition, Aussie super brat Nick Kyrgios fell to Richard Gasquet, the Frenchman getting revenge for a match here last year which saw him fail to convert nine match points before losing in five. While he eventually made this one a contest, the main talking point here was Kyrgios' bizarre antics during the second set, where he sarcastically applauded the umpire, and proceeded to dis-interestedly lose the set 6-1. The last two sets went to tie-breaks with Gasquet taking the last one 8-6 to win through in four. Vasek Pospisil, of Canada, did his part of the bargain to book a potential quarter final match-up with Andy Murray with a five-set win against Viktor Troicki.
