GLASGOW WARRIORS have moved to alleviate their mounting injury problems by recruiting Ali Price following the scrum-half's elevation to the professional ranks.

Such is the extent of Glasgow's injuries that Price may start in the1872 Cup encounter against Edinburgh.

His graduation from the Scottish Rugby Academy has come at the ideal time for Gregor Townsend, who had faced a selection headache in the backs, in the build-up to the Guinness PRO12 festive double header which kicks-off at BT Murrayfield on Sunday.

Though Tonswned was thrilled with the tension-packed European Champions Cup victory over Scarlets in Wales at the weekend, he was left with a major fitness headache.

Veteran Lions and Scotland ace Mike Blair was taken off after sustaining rib damage, then his scrum-half deputy Grayson Hart suffered a knock to his head.

In addition, there are doubts over captain Jonny Gray and the flanker Rob Harley.

Price said: "It's a huge honour to sign my first professional contract and I'm looking forward to continuing my career in Glasgow with the Warriors.

"I've developed a lot as a player over the last 12 months, having had the opportunity to train and play with the first team squad.

"I'm always learning and it's great to be able to work closely with the likes of Mike, Grayson and Henry Pyrgos."

Townsend added: "We're delighted to see another player come through our Academy system and Ali deserves this opportunity.

"He works really hard in training and has made real improvements to his game in the past year.

"It's great for him to have experienced players around him and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop within our environment."

Scotland age-group ace Price has already made nine appearances for the Warriors during his time at the Academy

He previously played for Bedford Blues and was part of the Saracens Storm 'A' league set-up.
