DORUS DE VRIES (5): Culpable at Rangers’ goal when he was caught in no-man’s land as Kenny Miller’s header caused havoc before Joe Garner turned it into the net. One decent stop from Martyn Waghorn at the death.
MIKAEL LUSTIG (7): Got forward often as Celtic pinned Rangers back for much of the game. Nullified any threat that might have come from Barrie McKay, a player who was hugely influential at Hampden for Rangers the last time the teams met.
KOLO TOURE: (7): Booked in the second period but strolled through the game. Little of note to deal with as Celtic dominated the game.
ERIK SVIATCHENKO (7): Comfortable throughout although may feel that he too was caught unawares as Rangers pulled a goal back just before the break.
KIERAN TIERNEY (7): Clipped early by Joey Barton in the early stages but recovered. Like Lustig, got forward often as Celtic penned Rangers into their own half before the floodgates opened.
JAMES FORREST: (6) Used his pace to good effect but crossing not what it can be and was twice caught in offside positions. Got into decent positions but didn’t trouble as often as he could have.
TOM ROGIC (8): Took control of the midfield with an excellent all-round display. Had one run-in with Joey Barton that left the Ibrox midfielder on the deck but was full of running, endeavour and picked out a number of fine passes. Replaced by Stuart Armstrong in second period.
SCOTT BROWN (8): Won one drop ball against Barton in the second period. Summed up his day. Said afterwards it was “men versus boys” which will have ruffled a few feathers but ultimately difficult to disagree.
NIR BITTON (7): Played his part in controlling the midfield and rarely put under any kind of pressure. Couple of decent tackles to break up play and ensure that Rangers never got a hold of the game in the middle of the park.
SCOTT SINCLAIR (8): Provided the corner from which Celtic scored their opening goal but bigger impact when he netted the Parkhead side’s third of the day on the hour mark with an effort that pinged off the inside of the post and crossed the line.
MOUSSA DEMBELE (9): Firmly arrived in a Celtic shirt. The first Celtic player since Harry Hood in the 1971 League Cup Final to score a hat-trick against Rangers. One with his head, one with his right and one with his left. Provided the assist for Sinclair’s goal too.
STUART ARMSTRONG (6): Took over from Rogic early in the second period and brought out one decent stop from Foderingham before hitting the back of the net in injury time for Celtic’s fifth of the day.
PATRICK ROBERTS (6): Replaced Forrest and a couple of trademark jinking runs. A couple of raking efforts from long range but didn’t manage to find the net.
CALLUM MCGREGOR (6): Took over from Scott Brown as Celtic simply eased their way towards the finish line.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
