How could you not be happy with Saturday's win over Georgia?
That was a performance that had everything; possession, points and bags of entertainment from Scotland, keeping a tidy crowd at Kilmarnock excited and warm! A great end to 2016 and a real appetiser for the Six Nations next year.
Very Cotter didn't mess about with the side he selected. He made changes, but that was still a very good starting XV, confirming that Scotland do have strength in depth. We've had it in the past, at certain times in what I would describe 'the modern era' - since the game became a 23-man sport, not just about fifteen - but not to this extent.
After Georgia's last couple of games, I did wonder if we were playing into their hands by taking the game to a tight football venue. I think we all have memories - or maybe that should be nightmares - about the game against Samoa at Pittodrie a few years ago. But there was none of that on Saturday.
Scotland took the game to Georgia from the off, and, we're happy to meet them head-on. That came through having the confidence in the pack to retain possession. From that base, you can dictate exactly what your game plan will be.
We were able to keep it tight, tie up the Georgian pack, and then give them a bit of a runaround out wide. Perfectly executed in the first half which was wonderful to watch and by the time we'd reached half-time, the game was over and the win was in the bag.
I've made a few observations about our scrum, particularly after the Argentina game. We looked more solid against Georgia although there were a few times that we went backwards at an alarming rate on knots.
I get the feeling that Georgia went for out and out power against the Scots, something their game is based around, why they have so many of their team are permanent fixtures amongst some of the biggest and best teams in France.
That suited Scotland, and our front row. It was an easier task to counter than the streetwise Pumas who were up to all sorts of dubious practices. Zander Fagerson looked like someone who was learning fast, but maybe he'd more confidence to play his game with Ross Ford packing beside him. Having that kind of muscle taking on the opposition hooker can only help.
I've talked about Hamish Watson over the last few weeks and really there is a guy who has upped his game to such extent that the No.7 jersey is his. Not the biggest, but real speed around the field, and, a canny knack of being in the right place almost all of the time.
And we cannot leave that forward effort without mentioning the Gray boys. What an engine room we have, turbocharged these days.
If a certain Mrs Murray from Dunblane gets mentioned for what her laddies have done for tennis, then Mrs Gray should get a mention in dispatches for what her boys Richie and Jonny do for that Scotland tight five.
With ball in hand, Scotland's backs will give teams headaches this season. Our back three - Maitland, Seymour and Hogg - give our attack such potency. Always great to see guys running in tries from long range.
I don't want to say 'told you so' even when I did, but, we really set Georgia back on their heels because we took quick ball, and, kept their defence occupied because that game was fragmented and broken. I've not seen it in ages, but how many quick, tap penalties did Scotland take at the weekend?
That, in itself, shows the team are playing with bags of confidence, having the willingness to play fast and direct, knowing that everyone is on the same wavelength and that the support will be right on the shoulder of the ball carrier. I loved seeing that.
Mark Bennett and Alex Dunbar are Test centres, but you have to think that come the Six Nations, Huw Jones will take one of those shirts. Once more showing the numbers we have in key positions.
All of which should mean that Vern Cotter can be a bit less stern Vern over Christmas and New Year. Who knows, the boys might even get a few days off.
The irony is of course, that just when Cotter appears to be getting it so right, he's for the off. Maybe all concerned were a bit hasty. Or maybe we'll look at things differently again during and after the Six Nations.
So Saturday was a great day for all. I had winners at Newcastle, Bangor and Newbury, Scotland had a win in Kilmarnock.
If only it was that good and that easy every Saturday. Roll on the Six Nations. I cannae wait.
