MARCUS HABER is electing to prove his manager wrong through deed rather than word. The striker had found himself out the frame at Dundee following the recent arrival of Sofien Moussa but, with the Tunisian injured for Wednesday’s Betfred Cup derby against Dundee United, Haber came in from the cold to start and helped his team into the quarter-finals with a strong display.
Neil McCann, the Dundee manager, admitted he and Haber have “had a few run-ins” and urged the player to “ram my words down my throat”. The Canadian did that with his performance in the 2-1 win but then sidestepped the opportunity to deliver a scathing retort to McCann.
It remains to be seen whether his performance will prolong Haber’s stay at the club but for now he was keeping his cards close to his chest.
“It was good to be back but it was more important to get the win,” he said. “I think I did okay. My team-mates found me and gave me some good support and it also helped having Faissal El Bakhtoaui running off me.
“He showed his pace and quality and the big man-small man partnership really worked.
“I just go into every match the same, always try to work hard and perform. Whenever my number is called I will always make sure I am ready.
“Nothing has changed on my end. I have a contract for another two years. I am here to work and perform. Moussa had done a job since he came in and it is unfortunate he has got injured, but these things happen.”
