Moussa Dembele could be set for a return to the Celtic line-up in time for Tuesday night’s conclusive UEFA Champions League game against Anderlecht.
The French striker missed Wednesday night’s game against Motherwell after sustaining an ankle injury in the Betfred League Cup final but Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager, is optimistic that he could feature against the Belgians next week.
“Moussa was out on the pitch on Wednesday and Thursday, although not with the team," said Rodgers. "He and Nir Bitton were out with the rehab team so we’ll see how he is tomorrow - but he’s got a good chance for Tuesday night.
“Just from looking at him over the last couple of days and reports from the medical team I’d say he has a good chance."
Meanwhile, Patrick Roberts looks set for another spell on the sidelines after a recurrence of a hamstring injury.
Celtic are awaiting a scan to assess the full extent of the injury but Roberts could be out until the turn of the year now.
"We’re waiting on the scan but it will most probably be the problem he’s had with his hamstrings before," said Rodgers. "So it’s not ideal. We’re hoping it’s not too serious but we’ll see what the scan says.

“He had a couple last year but they were spread out. Had he had it in pre-season, came back and played a bit but then had it again.
“This is a really unfortunate circumstance but the medical and sports science team are doing their work in looking over the trends and see whether there’s something mechanical behind it, or whether there’s something the player can do better.
“So they will investigate that and have a look at it. It’s unfortunate for Pat because he started the game well last night and when he’s in the mood he’s a joy to watch."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
