GRAEME MURTY will try to lift Graham Dorrans’ spirits after he was ruled out of action for another three months with an ankle injury.
The midfielder hasn’t played since the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock in what proved to be Pedro Caixinha’s final game in charge of Rangers.
Dorrans went under the knife in London this week and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines just months after he made the move to Ibrox.
The 30-year-old scored five goals in his first 13 appearances for the Light Blues and interim boss Murty is disappointed to lose his services for a prolonged period.
He said: “Graham is really unfortunate and I feel for him.
“On medical advice we took a conservative path with his initial rehab and that didn’t work. He’s had to have ankle surgery and that leads to him having an extended time out.
“I know he’s down and he’s quite low and before we talk about length of time being out I want to make sure the fella is alright.
“Having been there myself I know that coming up to Christmas it’s a brilliant time to be a footballer. You get loads of games and at home everything is done for you.
“Literally you don’t have to do anything – not so much as wrapping a present if you get it right!
“It’s all geared towards you performing in an extended way and you do miss it.
“We have to make sure Graham as a person is taken care of and then we’ll take care of the player after that.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
