Former Scotland international Peter Murchie has retired from rugby following medical advice.
The fullback, who won three caps for the Dark Blues in 2013-14, has suffered a series of head injuries in recent years which have forced him to finally call it a day at the age of 31.
A former Glasgow favourite, Murchie had left Scotstoun at the end of last season to join Stade Nicois in a player/coach capacity, but will move back to Scotland to take up a new role with Scottish Rugby.
Murchie made 116 appearances for the Warriors in an eight-year stint and often captained the side before leaving for France, but has had to cut short his spell abroad after taking the advice of medical specialists.
"I was told that I could possibly play again after a prolonged period of rest, but I was always going to retire at the end of the season so it made sense to stop now," Murchie said.
"I've not really had time to look back on my career yet but obvious highlights were the eight years I spent at Glasgow, what we achieved there and seeing the club grow, alongside winning my Scotland caps, which were a huge honour.
"It's been my plan to coach for the past five to six years and I've got my coaching degree and it is time to throw myself into that and look forward to staying in the game in a different capacity."
With Murchie set to continue his coaching experience with the Scottish Rugby development programmes, technical director Stevie Gemmell added: "Peter is clear in his coaching ambitions and Scottish Rugby will continue to support him as he makes that transition."
