BAIN: First act of the game was to pick the ball out of his own net after just two minutes on the clock. Oddly enough, despite a ropey defence in front of him he did not have too many saves to make. However, parry at the death to deny Alfredo Morelos before the striker clipped the rebound off the post ensured he earned his corn. (7)
AJER: Worked his socks off at the back as he kicked the game off in the right-back berth. A little naïve at times in terms of positioning and sliding into tackles but could not be faulted for endeavour or effort. (7)
SIMUNOVIC: Villain of the piece for Celtic. Just as the Parkhead side had taken the wind out of Rangers’ sails his use of an elbow on Alfredo Morelos gave his colleagues the unenviable task of eeking out a result with ten minute. (4)

BOYATA: First game in six weeks and looked like longer. Culpable for the first, almost made a carbon copy of the same mistake in the second and looked ill at ease for much of the game. Will have been delighted that his errors at the back were countered by what went on at the other end. (5)
TIERNEY: Usual industrious shift as he worked throughout, particularly once Celtic went down to ten men. Calm head at times in that opening period when the game threatened to pull away from Celtic at times. (8)
MCGREGOR: Gave the ball away at one point in the opening half when Celtic were 2-1 down and on the ropes. Mistake almost led to a third for Rangers but composed himself and another who upped his work-rate as soon as the plan changed to adapt to ten men. (7)

BROWN: Involved in a battle in the middle of the park but relished his moment on the cusp of the interval. Fouled by Daniel Candeias, Brown managed to hurl the ball upfield from deep inside his own half for Dembele to collect and convert. Enjoyed the subsequent celebrations. (8)
NTCHAM: A couple of graceful moments in the middle of the park and another who ran himself ragged. Set-pieces not entirely convincing – how Celtic miss Leigh Griffiths in such situations – but was a key component in the middle of the park. (7)
FORREST: Still to get that elusive goal against Rangers but will have been pleased with his contribution. Made way for Edouard as Celtic went to try to win the game. (7)

ROGIC: With one swing of his boot the Australian midfielder sunk an exquisite leveller to get Celtic a swift passage back into the game after Rangers had taken an early lead. Sacrificed when Celtic had to bring on Jack Hendry and change things around to adapt to ten men. (8)
DEMBELE: Quiet first half which owed more to the gap that existed between Celtic’s midfielder but made his mark on the cusp of the interval with a lobbed finished. Teed up Edouard for Celtic’s third of the afternoon. (7)
HENDRY: Might claim to have done enough to distract Morelos when the striker missed a last gasp chance when he hit the post with the goal at his mercy. On to steady the ship after Simunovic’s departure. (6)
EDOUARD: Calm and composed finish which he arched into the far corner net to give Celtic after being on the pitch for three minutes. An afternoon to remember for the teenager. (6)
ARMSTRONG: On for last five mins regulation time as Celtic looked to see the game out. (4)
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
