CONNOR GOLDSON hopes he can kick-start his career after moving to Rangers from Brighton this summer.
The defender agreed a four-year deal at Ibrox last week as he brought an end to a frustrating spell with the Seagulls.
A heart problem kept Goldson out of the game for several months and his chances in the Premier League were limited last term due to the form of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy.
Now he has an opportunity to establish himself at Ibrox after becoming the sixth signing of the summer for boss Steven Gerrard.
Goldson said: “It's been amazing but also frustrating at times. Getting injured pre-season after doing well in the first season was a big setback.
"Then, midway through the second season, having my heart troubles. I just think there's a lot more that I could have done and could have proved.
“I always wanted to do more, but at the same I have to remember what the club did for me - taking me from Shrewsbury when we had just gone up from League One into the Championship.
“Then losing in the play-offs, to getting promoted and staying in the Premier League - it was unbelievable.
“All the support I had throughout the surgery from everyone - the players, the staff and the fans - they were all brilliant with me. I can only look back with good memories.
"We had a great group of boys. We had a good core in the team for a good few years. A few have left now, like Liam Rosenior and Steve Sidwell, but we get on really closely.
“Everyone knows how close me and Dunky are, so I’m sure we'll stay in touch. I'll miss a lot of things about the place. There are amazing people that work there.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
