STEVEN GERRARD insists he has no issue with former Rangers manager Graeme Murty returning to his role as Under-20s boss.
Murty was officially named as Pedro Caixinha’s successor in the dugout in December after a spell as caretaker manager.
But he was sacked with three games to go in the Premiership after two heavy Old Firm defeats.
The 43-year-old has now gone back to his former position within the Light Blues’ Academy.
Gerrard said: “I haven’t had the chance to speak to Graeme yet. But I will do when the time is right. I believe he’s having a break at the moment until the academy returns. I don’t see an issue or a problem.
“It’s a question you’d have to ask Graeme in terms of what he’s thinking. It’s certainly not a problem where I am sitting.
“Welcome him back in, he’s got a lot to offer. I was asked about it and I was totally fine with that.”
Gerrard has brought Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milsom with him from Liverpool to Ibrox.
And the Anfield legend is confident he has the right mix of people and personalities to help him in his first managerial role.
He said: “Obviously Gary gives us that experience and that connection in terms of knowing the league very well also the area and the demands of the football club.
“Add that to the fact we were very close as teammates and continued that relationship. I would speak to Gary a couple of times a week anyway.
“Jordan has that seven or eight years Premier League experience working around elite footballers.
“He knows what he wants to see in the profile of a player. He knows how he wants them to look, the diet they need, the numbers they need to hit on a daily basis.
“He knows the programme in terms of how it should look throughout the season, the amount of games we are going to be playing and he is a big support for the coaches, myself Mick and Tom in term of what we give the players in terms of volume. That comes from Jordan. He is the number cruncher and we work on what he wants. In terms of training, that is where Tom and Mick come in.
“They have got major experience in delivery sessions. Further down the line you have got myself, so I feel we have got the right balance. We have every single area covered in terms of a group of staff.
“We have kept Colin Stewart on. He knows the keepers very well and that made sense for us to keep someone from the previous staff that we can bounce a lot of stuff off. That is the reason I wanted those people around.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
