GORDON: Little to do in the game but one moment when he would have held his breath as Rosenborg broke in the opening period. Nervous end to the game purely because of the tenuousness of the lead. (6)
LUSTIG: Back in his old stomping ground but night ended with what look like an injury. Question mark now over whether or not he will be fit in time for Sunday’s League Cup final against Aberdeen at Hampden. (6)
BENKOVIC: Burst forward at one point in the second period as Celtic went in search of that killer second goal. Calming influence at the back. (7)
BOYATA: Decent partnership with Benkovic which continues to grow but under no real pressure against Rosenborg. (7)
TIERNEY: Plenty of space to get forward and attack the flanks – one early ball towards the back post might have caused a little more consternation has Rogic been able to get on the end of it. Another lung bursting run at the beginning of the second period to tee up Sinclair. Worked his socks off at the back and going forward. (8)
FORREST: Continued to cement his reputation as Celtic’s most important players this season. Drove into the box in the opening period after collecting a fine pass from Christie but Hansen was able to beat his effort away. Oustanding turn and delivery to lay the ball on for Sinclair for the opening goal of the night. Some concern with the knock he took at start of second period. (8)
MCGREGOR: Another fine performance in that deep midfield role. Moved around when Scott Brown returned from the final stages of the game but patrolled the central pastures and protected the back four when necessary. Able to get forward latterly following the arrival of Brown. (7)
ROGIC: Back in to the starting line-up in place of Olivier Ntcham. Architect of one of Celtic’s early chances after almost teeing up Edouard. Had a chance from Celtic’s first corner of the night with a fine first-touch but couldn’t get a clean effort on goal. Got closer again when he was denied from close range by Rosenborg keeper Andre Hansen. (7)
SINCLAIR: Early snapshot chance. Made his mark just before the interval when he attacked the back post to calmly head the ball into the roof of the net to give Celtic the goal their early play had merited. Silly flick that might have been more costly under another ref. (7)
CHRISTIE: Early effort which brought forth the first corner of the night. Got in the way of an Edouard effort in the second period that looked as though it might have been goalbound. Little bit of naivety with late foul conceded as Celtic tried to hold onto the ball. (7)
EDOUARD: Ball taken off his toe in the opening stages after Rogic had put him through ball. Had one effort which crept just wide in the opening period and last act of the night was to curse in the direction of Christie for getting in the way of an effort at the near post. (7)
GRIFFITHS: On midway through the second period and one long range effort. (5)
GAMBOA: Took over from Lustig just after the hour mark and had to be on his toes. (5)
BROWN: Back on for the final 15 minutes of the game to mark his comeback following a seven-game absence. Interesting to see just whether or not he is handed a starting jersey on Sunday. (5)
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
