Former Celtic ace Chris Sutton said Brendan Rodger's departure from Celtic is "surprising timing".

Sutton was among the first to react over news that Rodgers would leave the club halfway through the season to join Leicester City.

It was confirmed today that Rodgers would make the move back to the English Premier League.

It is understood Kolo Toure and assistant Chris Davies will join Rodgers at the Premier League club.

Neil Lennon is expected to take over at Celtic until the end of the season.

Sutton, 45, took to social media to call the move “surprising timing.”

The former striker, who played for Celtic from 2000 to 2006, wrote: “Neil Lennon looks like he’s back in at Celtic ... Brendan Rodgers off to Leicester... surprising timing for Brendan to leave now and not in the summer…”
