ANDY HALLIDAY was pleased Rangers were able to salvage their Scottish Cup dreams on Sunday as they came from behind to earn a replay with Aberdeen.

Steven Gerrard’s side were staring at a quarter-final exit when they went behind after just 11 minutes at Pittodrie thanks to Sam Cosgrove’s penalty.

But a Joe Worrall strike just after the break was enough to clinch a deserved draw for the Gers and set up a replay with Derek McInnes’ side next week.

Halliday had to watch on from the bench as Borna Barisic was given the nod to start at left-back and the 27-year-old knows how important a result it was for the Light Blues as they saved their season.

“That was the message and I am pretty sure that is how all the players felt and thought,” he told RangersTV.

“It is something we spoke about at length over the last few weeks. The title race is out of our hands right now, we can only focus on getting three points game by game and seeing where it takes us.

“But the cup competition, that is in our hands so it is up to us to overcome these hurdles and put ourselves in a position to win it.

“Being 1-0 down at half-time, it was out of our hands again. We had to try and grasp it back and thankfully we done that.

“You want to play in every game, especially the bigger games and the occasions. If you are classifying a game as saving your season then you know it is a big one and it is one you want to be a part of to help the team.

“On the other hand, I need to try and help the team as best I can when I don’t play and encourage the ones that do get the privilege to wear the jersey.

“I am happy that we managed to get the job done in terms of staying in the cup and it is just up to myself to keep doing what I am doing and try and force myself into the team.”
