Celtic’s head of recruitment Lee Congerton has been linked with a Brendan Rodgers reunion after it emerged yesterday that the former Celtic manager will be involved in the head hunting for the same role at Leicester.

The Premier League side announced yesterday morning that Eduardo Macia will step down from their head of recruitment role at the end of the season, with Congerton linked with the vacancy.

Congerton was brought to Celtic by Rodgers following the departure of John Parks but his tenure at the club has been fairly unremarkable.

Congerton was defended robustly by Rodgers during both the summer and January transfer window and it remains to be seen if the pair will rekindle their relationship at Leicester.

That could open the door for a return to the club for Park who was credited with unearthing the likes of Victor Wanyama, Virgil Van Dijk, Tom Rogic and Fraser Forster, among others.

Speaking yesterday, Rodgers revealed that he will be involved in the process of sourcing Macia’s successor.

Rodgers said: “When I first came in, this was something that I was made aware, something that was pre-Christmas that Eduardo was going to move on,” said the former Celtic manager who left the club just over a fortnight ago.

“He wants a fresh challenge and he’s a really good guy.

“The club will go through the process of finding a replacement.

“I’m sure they’ll be a number of candidates that could help us make the next step. Over the coming weeks, we’ll go through a process.

“I will be involved. It will be a club appointment but it is important the manager is involved.”

Asked about Congerton last week, Rodgers said: “There’s always speculation because I brought Lee in to Celtic.

“Our relationship goes back a long way and he’s very good at what he does.”
