RICHARD Bevan, the chairman of England’s League Management Association, has insisted there is nothing wrong with Alex McLeish’s health.

There have been rumours about the Scotland manager's health, all unconfirmed, since before he was made the national team manager for a second time 13 months ago, which have infuriated his family.

Bevan, speaking on Sky Sports, was responding to an article which claimed McLeish would be sacked by tomorrow (Friday) at the latest and made reference to what was described as a “deeply troubling episode” which was said to take place before Sunday’s game in San Marino.

It was alleged Ian Maxwell, the SFA chief executive, felt that the 59-year-old’s health was at risk and this was one of the reason for removing him from his duties.

However, Bevan said: “One particular paper put a story out about Alex’s health and also about his position as manager of Scotland. I have spoken to Alex numerous times today and also to a senior executive at the Scottish FA, and Alex has told me he is absolutely fine.

“Alex is a highly professional football manager, he has experience at Hibs, Motherwell and at Rangers, and indeed his time with Scotland in 2007, when unfortunately they didn’t get through when a free-kick (against Italy in a 2-1 defeat at Hampden) decisions went against them.

“Alex is tactically aware, he is incredible well prepared and he is absolutely fine.

“From the perspective of the SFA, he is still their manager, I’m sure going forward that Alex will be very successful, and if I was a Scottish fan I would be extremely happy that in Scotland I had a man not only with his great experience, but also for his passion and love for his country.

“Any country would welcome someone of that experience to be their manager.”
