DUNDEE defender Cammy Kerr has assured the long-suffering Dens Park faithful that he feels their pain.

Jim McIntyre’s men slipped to their EIGHTH successive Ladbrokes Premiership defeat on Saturday when goals from Scott Tanser and Callum Hendry saw them go down 2-0 against St Johnstone.

The costly reverse means the Taysiders are now six points adrift at the foot of the table and staring relegation in the face following a nightmare campaign.

Boss McIntyre stated after the loss in Perth that Dundee would likely need to win all four of their remaining matches to survive - a streak they have not managed in the top-flight since May 1999. He also admitted they let down the 2000 supporters who made the trip to Perth.

And Kerr, 23, went one step further, dubbing life as a Dee ‘the hardest thing in the world’. However, he has pleaded with them to stick with the team in the final weeks of the campaign.

“It’s easy for me to come out and say ‘we need the fans’, it’s easy for anyone to say that,” said Kerr. “But I know how they feel.

“I AM hurting as much as they are and being a Dundee fan is probably the hardest thing in the world at this moment in time.

“There have been ups and downs and, lately, not many ups. But it’s so pivotal that they stick by us.

“I know it’s not easy for them to do that for the rest of the season because they could be scunnered by what they’ve seen in the last wee while, but the fans are so important to this football club.”

On Dundee's showing at McDiarmid Park, Kerr continued: “The second half against St Johnstone just wasn’t good enough. In this position, we can’t afford to be conceding the sort of goals that we are - and we’re combining that with not putting the ball in the back of the net. Not good enough.”

While the result in Perth was one to forget, Kerr did make his second successive start for Dundee having not previously featured since January after losing his defensive berth to James Horsfield.

Kerr told Dee TV: “The chance to get back in the Dundee team was enough to keep motivating me. I train every and the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do is be a football player and I’ve got that drive to get up every day and fight for my place.

“It’s up to me to keep it now and do my best for this football club.”
