KEVIN THOMSON is confident Rangers are on the right track to launch a challenge for the Premiership title next term.
The Light Blues finished nine points behind Celtic in Steven Gerrard’s first campaign at Ibrox.
The Gers improved significantly this term and former midfielder Thomson is encouraged by the progress that boss Gerrard has overseen.
Thomson said: “The manager knows that and you are always judged on trophies at Rangers. You could be a really top player for this club, but if you leave after a couple of years and haven’t won anything, people won’t remember you.
“The one thing for sure is that the manager is improving the team, the building, the culture of the club and the standards within the club. When Rangers have been at their best this season, they have looked like a proper Rangers team.

“The word consistency is always there and the manager has said that himself.
“He needs people he can rely on week in week out, that can give him 8/10 every week.
“It is not fives and sixes every couple of weeks, because they lose you points and when you lose those points, ultimately you get to the end of the season and you don’t have any trophies.
“He will know the bits that he wants to improve and it was always going to be small steps, even though that is difficult at a club like this. It does take time and I think we will be bang there next season and really putting pressure on for the league.
“I think if you ask the players if they go on a long, hard journey next year and it finishes with progression in the Europa League and they are at the business end get their hands on silverware, then all the hard work and sacrifice is worth it. Trust me.”
