Here's how the Rangers players rated against Progres Niederkorn in the Ibrox club's 2-0 win.
ALLAN MCGREGOR The Rangers goalkeeper had practically nothing to do all evening. But he made a vital save from Progres substitute Jack Mmaee at the death to prevent Niederkorn grabbing an away goal 6
JAMES TAVERNIER The right back’s upfield runs and cross caused the visitors all sorts of problems. But he could have killed the tie off and failed to do so. He struck the post with his penalty attempt in the second-half 6
GEORGE EDMUNDSON The centre half will have far harder afternoons and evenings than this in the coming months. But the physically imposing defender looks capable of establishing himself as a first team regular on this evidence. A deserved Man of the Match 8

CONNOR GOLDSON Worked well with Edmundson in the heart of the rearguard and ensured that Rangers kept their third clean sheet of the season. Snuffed out any potential Progres attacks with the minimum of fuss 7Â
RYAN JACK Did what Ryan Jack does. Worked tirelessly in the middle of the park. Probed for a gap in the opposition defence whenever he was on the ball. Did little, if anything, wrong 7
STEVEN DAVIS The Northern Ireland internationalist has become the sort of dominant figure in the Rangers midfield that Steven Gerrard hoped he would when he joined on loan back in January. His distribution was flawless 8
SHEYI OJO The Liverpool loanee had a quiet evening out wide. He certainly took his second-half goal well. But he will need to raise his game considerably following the departure of Daniel Candeias earlier this week 5
ANDY HALLIDAY Was scythed down cynically by Tom Laterza early in the first-half as he attacked the Progres goal. But the Rangers man, picked at left back ahead of Borna Barisic, was undeterred. Unlucky not to score after that 7
JOE ARIBO He took the opening goal brilliantly and set up Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield with chances with his trickery in the final third thereafter. An impressive showing 8

SCOTT ARFIELD Unfortunate not to score with a diving header after getting on the end of a Tavernier cross after half an hour. Should have done better after being supplied by Morelos. Replaced by Jordan Jones 6
ALFREDO MORELOS Fired wide after being set up by Aribo in the first-half and then had a goal chalked off for offside just before half-time. Replaced by Jermain Defoe with 15 minutes remaining 5Â
SUBSTITUTES
JORDAN JONES Won a penalty for his side within minutes of coming on 4
JERMAIN DEFOE Forced a save from Progres keeper Sebastien Flauss with a long-range shot soon after taking to the field 3
GREG STEWART Hardly involved 2
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.Â
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.Â
That is invaluable.Â
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
