MELROSE RUGBY have revealed that the team to play in the new Super 6 semi-professional competition will be called Southern Knights.

The Super 6 league will begin in November, when Southern Knights will face teams from Ayr, Boroughmuir, Heriots, Stirling and Watsonians, with fixtures against Welsh opposition scheduled for later in the season. 

Based in the Scottish Borders, Southern Knights will don a new kit made up of all the colours of the local teams with the players drawn from the exisiting Melrose squad and the surrounding area.

Southern Knights head coach Rob Christie said: "The Southern Knights for 2019-20 is a really dynamic and well balanced squad with some local familiar faces.

"The management team are determined to create an environment that will challenge all players, while creating a platform for those with the ability and desire to progress into professional rugby.

“This is an exciting time in Scottish rugby and I’m thrilled to be a part of it as we look forward to the inaugural Super 6 season. We can’t wait to get started.”
