Joel Pereira. The former Manchester United man coughed up a couple of crosses but down well to save from Jack and then Tavernier as Rangers turned the screw. No chance with either goal but tipped mis-hit Jack volley over. Kept the score down. 7
Aaron Hickey. A second Hampden outing for the youngster – who started on the right and ended up at centre half, where he was beaten one-on-one by Morelos for No 3. Hardly ideal to utilise him in this manner. 5
Michael Smith. Picked up storming recent form with a succession of clearances to prevent Morelos then Ojo (twice) opening the scoreline but couldn’t stop the little Colombian scoring the second. Withdrawn early. 6
Christophe Berra. In the wars as he battled with Morelos. Posted missing when the crosses came in for both Rangers goals but sliding intervention did at least deny a fourth. 6
Aidy White. The left back was tidy in possession and made some decent blocks but his hands full as Tavernier made it an overload down his side. Not in the game as attacking threat. 6
Oliver Bozanic. All the usual graft from the Australian midfielder but Hearts were chasing shadows in that second period and he couldn’t make it back to stop Morelos for No 3. 5
Glenn Whelan. Was using his experience well until Hearts’ injury curse came back, forcing the veteran Irishman off with a hamstring issue just before the half hour mark. 5
Sean Clare. Plugged away on the right of Hearts’ midfield three. Got in the referee’s book for lunging in on Barisic on halfway and ended up playing at right back. 6
Craig Wighton. First start of the season for the former Dundee striker as part of a three-man front line. He won a few balls high up the park and headed narrowly wide from a second half corner. Booked. 5
Steven MacLean. Surprise starter earned a harsh booking for an aerial challenge on Goldson but has to be far more disciplined. Withdrawn for his own protection after foolishly sliding in after the whistle on McGregor. 4
Ryo Meshino. Put Goldson on his backside early but couldn't stop Tavernier getting out down the right. Struggled to get on the ball and have the impact he would have liked. 5
Substitutes:
Andrew Irving (for Whelan 20). The young midfielder was into the action early for Glenn Whelan but had his work cut out and won’t look back on his outing too fondly. 4
Uche Ikpeazu (for MacLean 40). On early to cheers from the Hearts fans and got their first shot on target after the Rangers goal. Battled well and saw second half header blocked by Jack. 6
Steven Naismith (for Smith 53). Long-awaited return from injury when he replaced Michael Smith in the second period. Caught Goldson with an elbow, then a sly kick, and booked for run-in with Jack. 4
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
