DIRK KUYT reckons boss Steven Gerrard would savour a title win as much as the Rangers support if he could lead his side to Premiership glory this season.
The Light Blues are level on points with Celtic at the top of the table after an impressive start to the campaign and hopes are high amongst supporters that this could finally be the Gers’ year to end their long wait for silverware success.
Gerrard has made a significant impact on and off the field since arriving at Ibrox from Liverpool last summer to begin his managerial career. And former Reds striker Kuyt is pleased to see the Anfield legend making his mark in the dugout this season.
“He has done really well and from the first day he has been here he has been working hard to get the club back to where they belong,” Kuyt said. “Of course I have followed him as a former team-mate and a friend.
“I was at Ibrox a few weeks ago for the Feyenoord match and I watched him closely and his team closely and I was impressed with the effort that the team was putting into the game and the quality on the pitch. He is doing a great job and I think from here on he will only do better.
“I think what it (a title win) would mean to the club and the supporters, it would mean as much to him. He is a winner and he will try to do everything to win trophies. That is what it is all about for him.
“He wants to be the best and only the best is good enough for him. It would be a massive achievement for him if he could do, not only for Steven but also for this football club.
“It is great to see where the club was a few years ago and where they are now and how much they have improved. They will keep progressing and it is impressive what Stevie is doing here.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
