ALLAN MCGREGOR Got away with one in the first half as Long nipped round him but a point-blank save from the striker after the break was superb. 7
JAMES TAVERNIER Stuck to his task in his own half and was solid defensively. Tried to get forward and can be pleased with his efforts. 7
CONNOR GOLDSON Was comfortable for most of the game but had a couple of shaky moments. Fortunate Long didn’t score from his skewed header. 7
NIKOLA KATIC Makes silly mistakes at times but showed his prowess in the air to give Rangers the lead with a powerful header. A solid showing from the Croatian. 7
BORNA BARISIC Not a flashy performance but one that was just what his boss needed from him. Hit the post with a curling free-kick late on. 7
RYAN JACK Not as dominant as he has been or can be but put in a shift as always. Certainly played his part in a key win. 7
GLEN KAMARA Lucky to escape injury early on when caught by Hylton and should have done better with a chance from the edge of the area. Slack at times but decent overall. 6
SCOTT ARFIELD No lack of effort in the midfield battle and was a driving force as he looked to push on. Continues to repay Gerrard’s faith in him. 7
JOE ARIBO Again showed excellent close control and some nice touches. Improved after a slow start and can be pleased with his contribution. 7
RYAN KENT A frustrating afternoon overall as he couldn’t really hurt Motherwell at key moments. Never hid but couldn’t produce his best. 6
ALFREDO MORELOS Another impressive showing was undermined by a moment he will regret. Led the line well and scored a fine goal but gesture towards Well fans earned him a second yellow. 7
Substitutes:
MATT POLSTER On for the final minutes to help see it out. 3
JERMAIN DEFOE No impact after injury-time introduction. 1
GREG STEWART Got the final seconds. 1
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
