GLASGOW CLAN have made their first signing of the decade, with the Swedish forward, Marcus Jonsson, joining the team.
The 28-year-old joins the Clan from Swedish division 1 side, Tegs, where he spent the first portion of the 2019-2020 season.
Jonsson’s move to the EIHL is his first time playing professionally outside of his home country, having had stints with Allsvenskan sides VIK Västerås, AIK and IF Björklöven, the latter two where he was alternate captain.
Tjena @ClanIHC , very happy to get the opportunity to play for the club and the fans I heard great things about. Can’t wait to get there, see you soon! #PurpleArmy

Jonsson hails from Umeå in north of the country and joins the Clan on the back of a successful early season at his local side where he regularly played in front sizeable crowds at their 5400 capacity arena.
The Swede is in good form, having recorded 12 points (5+7) in ten games with Tegs this season and has amassed 77 points in the Allsvenskan during his career.
The signing of the 6 foot tall goal scorer is timely for the Braehead side, as they have recently hit a dip in form.
Having climbed to the top of the EIHL towards the end of last year with an incredible record-equalling unbeaten run which stretched to eight games, Zack Fitzgerald’s side lost momentum and have slipped to seventh place, 18 points behind leaders, Sheffield Steelers.
The Clan have also been hit by injuries this season and so Fitzgerald is delighted to have added Jonsson, who arrived in Glasgow yesterday, to his squad
"Marcus will bring energy with a strong two-way game." said the head coach.
"He has played at a very high level for the past 9 seasons. He works hard, brings physicality and on top of it all, has a great attitude.”
The Clan have a big few days ahead of them, facing league-leaders Sheffield at Braehead this evening before going up against fourth-place Nottingham Panthers at the Motorpoint Arena on Thursday. They will then only have one day off before Belfast Giants, the current league champions, travel to Braehead to take on Jonsson and his teammates.

And so despite the hectic week his team have in the coming days, Fitzgerald has no doubt his new signing will slot in seamlessly.
"Marcus is held in very high esteem by former teammates and management,” said the American.
"Swedish players come with a very thorough understanding of the game. They are taught well and often thrive in this league.
"I look forward to working with and welcoming Marcus to Glasgow."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
