CRYSTAL PALACE are reportedly plotting a £25million transfer for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
The Frenchman has been linked with a number of clubs this summer including Arsenal and Leeds, but now The Scottish Sun credit the Eagles with an interest.
Edouard is under contract at Celtic Park under 2022 but, with a number of high-profile European clubs in keen pursuit of his signature, manager Neil Lennon has revealed the Scottish champions are doing all they can to retain Edouard to help in their pursuit of a record-breaking tenth successive league title.
He said previously: “There are ongoing discussions at the minute with Odsonne’s representatives. Ultimately he’s a player we want around.
“He had a magnificent season this year and we want to keep him. It’s as simple as that. We’re doing everything we can to keep him here for at least another season anyway.
“Of course there is going to be speculation around a player of that quality. But we’re comfortable at the minute with the position we’re in with him.
“He’s grown into a top-class striker. He’s really blossomed over the last couple of seasons. He’s got a fantastic relationship certainly with me but also my backroom team and his teammates. You can see how much the supporters appreciate him as well. I think that’s reciprocated.
“He seems pretty happy and we’re all looking forward to seeing him at training. We’d love to discuss things with him and a few other players as well about what our plans are going forwards.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
