Hibs midfielder Alex Gogic has told of his disappointment after having to pull out of the Cyprus squad due to a positive-negative coronavirus test.

The midfielder was delighted to receive his first call-up to the national squad recently but the happiness turned to heartbreak after the Covid-19 test.

Gogic was forced to self-isolate after initially failing the testing, only to then discover it was false positive. He missed Hibs' defeat to Aberdeen yesterday and has now confirmed on social media that he'll have to sit out Cyrpus' upcoming games against Montenegro and Azerbaijan.

He posted on social media: "I'm very sad and disappointed to announce that I cannot join the national team for these two upcoming games.

"Unfortunately on Friday I returned a false positive Covid-19 test. Since then I have returned two negative tests proving I am negative and do not have the virus. Everybody in my household returned negative results.

"I have been instructed to follow the Scottish guidelines, so I have to isolate at home for ten days. Good luck to Cyprus national team. I'll be cheering from home and hopefully see you in October."
