WATSONIANS, who topped the inaugural Super6 table before lockdown, will make the short trip across Colinton Road to play Boroughmuir Bears on the weekend of 31st October, in the first round of matches of the ‘Sprint Series’ which has been arranged as part of Scottish domestic rugby’s return from hibernation. Southern Knights will host Ayrshire Bulls and Heriot’s are at home to Stirling County on the same weekend.
This one-off competition will involve each of the Super6 teams playing every other team once (either home or away) over five consecutive weekends up to 28th November, with the final placings to be decided by three play-off matches on the weekend of 5th December, when the first placed team will host second, third will host fourth and fifth will host sixth.
“This is a great opportunity for all FOSROC Super6 squad players to return to competitive rugby and will provide much needed game time for a number of Scotland U20 players, said Sean Lineen, whose many job sites include ‘Scottish Rugby’s FOSROC Super6 On-Field Lead’.
“It’s fantastic that FOSROC are once again supporting the Super6 programme, in doing so they help to support in bridging the gap between the amateur and professional game.”
A full Super6 schedule is planned in the New Year, although it is not clear at this stage whether the cross-border element against Welsh teams is going to be viable.
The 31st October start date is indicative, based on the target of Scottish Rugby having government permission to progress from Stage 4 to Stage 6 of its Return to Rugby Roadmap by that time.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
